Cyber attack – what an earth?

The CSI Cloud service got to be a collateral target of a Denial-of-Service attack in September.

As a summary:

• In September 2018, the CSI Cloud service suffered twice from service disruptions.
• The cause turned out to be a distributed Denial-of-Service attack mainly from Eastern Europe and South America.
• The target of the attack was a completely separate service just located in the same data center.
• The attack blocked all the Internet connections of the data center.
• During the 2nd attack the target was located and once it was disconnected from the Internet, attacks ceased.
• Taking measures to prevent such an attack was impossible, but good preparedness helped to minimize its effects.
